Durian exports to China increased by more than 4,000%
Particularly in October 2022, durian export turnover to China reached nearly USD 50 million, an increase of 4,120% over the same period last year. This is an unprecedented increase in the history of the durian industry in Vietnam.
According to statistics, durian accounted for about 33% of the total value of fruit and vegetable exports to the Chinese market in October, helping the item dubbed “fruit king” surpassing dragon fruit to become a valuable vegetable and fruit product with the largest value exported to this market of nearly 1.5 billion people.
Talking to the press, Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen, General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, said that 2022 is quite a successful year for fruit exports because there are many new markets, the supply is also abundant, although near Tet but the border situation is good…
Specifically, products such as bananas, durians and passion fruit are officially exported to the Chinese market; fresh longan imported into Japan; Green-skinned pomelos and lemons are imported into the New Zealand market.
“That’s not to mention the key fruit products for export in the southern provinces that are harvesting crops such as dragon fruit, bananas, jackfruit, mango, pomelo… While more and more markets are opening for Vietnamese fresh fruit, I predict that in 2023, the export of this item will prosper, expected to reach about USD 4 billion, an increase of at least 20% compared to 2022”, Mr. Nguyen said.
